On the East Village Kids project our team has worked collaboratively with the client and the landscape architect to create an indoor and outdoor environment that nurtures a careful balance between open joyful play and more structured experiential learning. The project has strong connections to multiple exterior play areas and an educational vegetable garden for learning about the growing process for fruit and vegetables. Zoning of spaces from active areas full of varied opportunities to push a child’s imagination carefully transition to more nestled spaces where kids can quietly disentangle from the areas of investigative play to settle in with a picture book or craft. We provide design consideration to the boundaries and edges of these spaces to ensure that children have places to interact independently while still allowing caregivers the ability to provide necessary oversight.
